Ryan Mereweather
"I grew up in Toronto, and throughout my entire life I have always had the desire to create. I began painting seriously at the age of thirteen, inspired by the impressionist movement. I sought to hone my skills at capturing light with colour. Remaining mostly self taught by my investigation into art history, I entered The Art program at Central Technical School at the age of eighteen. During the three years I spent at Central Technical School I received a good grounding in a classical training of painting and drawing, as well as exploring other outlets such as Photography, printmaking, illustration and sculpture.I then went on to take Illustration at Sheridan College where I was accepted with advanced standings. There I learned to have a very productive work ethic in the arts and further honed my drawing skills. During the time at Central Tech and Sheridan and there after I was frequently hired to do commissioned portraits, taking part in local group shows as well as being part of the Contact photography festival in 1999. I am currently in my third year at OCAD working on a Bachelor of Fine Arts, as well as actively in the creation of an artist co-op dedicated to finding spaces to have group art shows."
Daniel Stamant
A recent graduate of NSCAD University's Fine Art program, Daniel has relocated to Toronto to launch his art career. The work he is showing in the Urban Bound exhibition is inspired by the mounting problem posed by global warming; as a result man has rendered the natural world to near unbearable levels. "This work's emphasis is developed as a result of our urban existence and our social responsibility to global climate change. My concern is the quality of life we are leaving to our future generations, as well as the lack of responsibility we are taking for those that came before us. The ecosystem itself is mans original canvas and we have come to a point in our existence where mans paintbrush is overlapping that of our environment."
