Ellen McKinney, one of Steam Whistle's good beer folks, had the inspiration for the recipe collection on our website. In December 2001, Ellen drafted a small cook booklet entitled "In the Kitchen with Steam Whistle" which she presented in her Christmas cards to all the staff. We’ve taken the essence of that booklet to build our website recipe collection.

"It all began with the staff beer tickets attached to my pay cheques. I quickly accumulated far more beer than I alone could consume - even the maritime in me could not find the capacity with which to drink all of it. Initially I opted to donate my supply to friends in need. After I had done my job converting the masses to the purity and refinement of Steam Whistle Pilsner, I had an epiphany - a memory from my teens. My mum, who rarely drinks, took me grocery shopping one afternoon. Instead of heading to The Great Atlantic Superstore, we stopped at the liquor store and she returned with a six-pack in hand. This was shocking as I had never, and still have not, seen my mother drink beer. The beer, I soon learned, was the essential ingredient in our dinner-to-be: beer dough pizza! That savoury memory inspired the plot twist in the story of how I revolutionized my beer consumption. I scoured the web, the world and my hungry mind for innovative 'made with beer' recipes. I found everything from beer cough syrup to beer escargot. Good company, good beer and good food are meant to be shared. Resolve to fill your kitchens with some new eats! If you don't cook, just print these pages and use them as a trendy coaster for your bottle of Steam Whistle. Here's to a delicious adventure!"
